The preparation

6 steps, about 5 minutes start to finish.

  1. 01

Chill a coupe glass in the freezer for at least 10 minutes.

  2. 02

Pour sugar onto a small plate. Run a lemon wedge around the rim of the chilled coupe, then dip the rim in the sugar to coat evenly.

  3. 03

Combine Cognac, Cointreau, and fresh lemon juice in a cocktail shaker with ice.

  4. 04

Shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled.

  5. 05

    Double-strain into the sugar-rimmed coupe.

  6. 06

Garnish with a lemon twist. Serve immediately.

lightbulb The chef's notes

“Double-strain into the chilled coupe so no ice shards cloud it. Sugar just half the rim if you like, that way you can choose sweet sips or straight ones.”
