What started as a live show centered on sides, cocktails, desserts, appetizers, and breads (everything that usually gets labeled "extra") has grown into something bigger than recipes. Side Dish is about flavor, curiosity, craft, conversation, and the joy of making something worth sharing.
This is a place where a great potato, a ridiculous dip, a perfect dessert, or a well-built drink can carry just as much meaning and excitement as any entrée ever could. It is for people who love food not just as fuel, but as experience.
Technique matters. Flavor matters. Doing it well matters. But joy matters too. Side Dish takes cooking seriously without taking itself too seriously.
Whenever possible, we build flavor from scratch. Sauces, dressings, dips, desserts, cocktails. Every detail is an opportunity to make food feel more personal and more alive.
More than anything, Side Dish exists to create a space where people feel welcome. The spirit of the channel is built around kindness, generosity, and shared enjoyment.
Doug and his wife Amy started Side Dish on May 24th, 2020, right in the middle of the pandemic, as a way to keep busy and stay connected with friends and family. The idea was simple: there are countless cooking shows built around the main dish, and hardly any for everything else. So Side Dish became a home for the supporting cast: the sides, dips, cocktails, and desserts that usually get overlooked.
It's a team effort, live every week. Doug cooks and hosts; Amy runs the production computer and keeps the chat going; and their friend Denise keeps things moving off camera, spoons at the ready and a hundred small things handled. All three keep the live conversation rolling. Chaotic, fun, and hopefully educational.
Be kind. Be loyal.
Give grace where you can.
And do something nice for someone.
Questions about a recipe, episode ideas, collaborations, or just want to share something you made? Doug reads everything.
