A buttery, crisp-fried piece of toast with an egg cooked right in the middle.
8 steps, about 9 minutes start to finish.
Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Cut a circle out of the center of the bread slice using a round cutter or glass.
Place bread and the cut-out circle in the pan.
Crack egg into the hole in the bread.
Season with salt and pepper.
Cook until egg white is set, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Flip carefully and cook the other side to desired doneness.
Serve with the toasted puck from the center.
“Butter the pan well and keep the heat moderate so the bread toasts golden while the egg sets. Flip gently with a wide spatula, that's the moment the yolk likes to break.”
