The Preparation
Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter a 9x13 baking dish.
Spread the cubed bread in the prepared baking dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread. Press down gently to ensure all bread absorbs liquid.
Scatter raisins or cranberries over the top if using.
Let soak for 15-20 minutes.
Bake at 350°F for 45-55 minutes until puffed, set, and golden brown on top.
Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with orange brandy sauce.
