The Preparation
Soak dates in hot water with baking soda
Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla
Mix in flour and date mixture
Pour into greased baking dish
Bake until set
Make toffee sauce: melt butter, sugar, and cream together
Pour sauce over warm pudding
