The Preparation
Chop 5 green onions.
Shred 8 ounces of cheddar cheese.
In a bowl, combine the green onions and cheddar cheese.
Add 1 cup mayonnaise and 1/2 cup sour cream. (Original recipe calls for 1.5 cups mayo, but substituting half sour cream cuts the richness.)
Add 1/2 cup bacon bits and 1/2 cup slivered almonds.
Mix everything together well.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
Serve with crackers — Ritz, Townhouse, club crackers, Triscuits, or baguette slices.
