A brooding, bittersweet sipper of bourbon, Cynar, and amaro with chocolate bitters.
6 steps, about 3 minutes start to finish.
Add bourbon/rye, Cynar, and Amaro Meletti to a mixing glass with ice.
Stir gently to combine and chill (do not shake - shaking introduces too much air and lightens the drink).
Add 5 dashes of chocolate bitters.
Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.
Express the orange peel over the drink by squeezing it to release the oils.
Drop the orange peel into the glass as garnish.
“Gentle stirring is the move here, never a shake, since shaking adds air and lightens a drink meant to be rich and spirit-forward. Squeeze the orange peel over the top to spray its oils before dropping it in.”
